Fred Loren Gardner
1928 - 2017
AUGUSTA - Fred Loren Gardner, 89, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2017, at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bangor on July 11, 1928, a son of the late Leigh P. and Kathryn C. (Casler) Gardner.
He attended schools in Orono and then moved to Augusta and graduated from Cony High School in 1946. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and, following his service with the Corps, attended Wentworth Institute In Boston, Mass., graduating in 1951.
He worked at Westinghouse Electric for eight years and then worked for the Augusta Water District for 28 years.
He was a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Fred's camp in Dennysville was his second home. He enjoyed spending time there since he was a young boy. Every summer, the family would vacation there together. He will be greatly missed.
Fred was predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie Richardson and Ella Waitt and best friends, Pete Anthony and Robie Belanger.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene (Glazier) Gardner of Augusta; five children, Donna A. Gardner of Augusta, Diane L. Ouellette and her husband Don of Wells, Debra K. McMahon and her husband Tom of Augusta, Darlene L. St. Hilaire and her companion Patrick Griffin of Freeport and Dean L. Gardner of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Dawn Elwell, David Ouellette, Dedra Tapia, Holly McMahon-Hall, Kevin McMahon, Kara St. Hilaire, Kathryn St. Hilaire and Loren Gardner; five great-grandchildren, Cooper, Braedyn, Adelynn, Tatum and Emerson; also a very special friend, Lynn Robinson; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private graveside service will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
