Fred Eben Dudley
1928 - 2017
SIDNEY - Fred Eben Dudley, 89, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2017, following a short illness. He was born in Smithfield on April 21, 1928, the oldest of five sons of Eben and Lois (Brooks) Dudley.
Throughout his life, Fred was employed by various mills, prior to retiring from the State of Maine after 30 years of employment.
Fred's real passion was draft horses, owning a team since he was a teen. He enjoyed working with them on his small farm, plowing fields, and twitching logs from the woods. He could also be found at state fairs, pulling horses and later cheering them on from the stands.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Christine (Benson) Dudley, four brothers, Harold, George, Waylan, and Raymond, many cousins and close friends. Surviving are a son Richard E. Dudley of Dresden, three daughters, Carol Brann and husband Dennis of Vassalboro, Linda Graham and Esther Dudley of Waterville; four grandchildren, Leslie Tardiff and husband Derek, Sarah Mraz and husband Jon, Joshua McKechnie, and Kyle Dudley and wife Erica; great-grandchildren, Cooper Tardiff, Jacob Mraz, Mackenzie Harrison, Eben and Amelia Dudley.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of Maine General Hospice for their care and support.
A graveside memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on June 3 at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade.
