Carmen P. Welton
1928 - 2017
AUGUSTA - Carmen Pepin Welton, 89, of Augusta, Maine, passed away at the Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Lilburn, Ga. on Monday, August 21, 2017. Carmen was born in Augusta on Feb. 27, 1928.
She graduated from Cony High School in 1946, married and worked for years as a homemaker and contributed to the Kennebec Journal. She also worked at the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Key Bank from which she retired in 1985. Carmen was an active member of Saint Mary Catholic church in Augusta, performing her duties as a lay Eucharistic Minister at the Augusta General Hospital and contributing many volunteer hours over her lifetime. Carmen was known for her lovely singing voice and piano playing even as a resident of the Pruitt nursing home as well as her quick, witty comebacks and ability to enjoy a good laugh.
Mrs. Welton was preceded in death by parents Clara and Leonce Pepin; sister Patricia Pepin; daughter-in-law Diane Sherman. She is survived by daughter MaryBeth Welton of Augusta, son and daughter-in-law Steven and Patricia Welton of Pittston; granddaughters Meghan Cociu, Emily Stetson, Rachael Stetson, Victoria Johnson; great-granddaughters Riley Bartlett and Violet Cociu.
