GUILFORD AND SIDNEY -- Wilfred E. Bartley, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Friday evening, July 12, 2013, at VA Maine Healthcare Systems-Togus after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Dennistown on May 15, 1930, son of the late George and Marie Louise Bartley.

He was a graduate of Jackman High School, class of 1949. In 1952, he went to serve his country in the U.S. Army as a scout during the Korean conflict. Upon his return, he met and married his wife of 58 years, Rita (Poirier) Bartley, on July 4, 1955. Together they raised four daughters living in Jackman, Greenville and Guilford.

Early in his marriage, he worked a variety of jobs until gaining employment at Hardwood Products company in Guilford, where he worked for 25 years as a licensed boiler operator. He was also a Realtor during his retirement. In 2001, Wilfred retired from real estate and moved to Sidney with his wife, to be closer to his family.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and traveling. He will be remembered for his sense of humor. Wilfred was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Greenville, the American Legion Bourque Lanegan Post 5 in Waterville, Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the Elks Lodge 905 in Waterville. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Wilfred is survived by his wife, Rita (Poirier) Bartley, of Sidney; four daughters, Deborah Bartley Wing and her husband, Michael, of Brunswick, Beverly and Frank Doughman of Indiana, Dolly Bartley and Dan Littlefield, of Sidney, and Brenda and Doug Reiter, of Maryland; six grandchildren, Karen and Heather, of Indiana, Thomas and Peter of Sidney, and Rachel and Jacob, of Maryland; and three great-grandchildren.

Wilfred is also survived by his siblings Mamie Levesque, of Jackman, Theresa Rioux, of Guilford, Francis Bartley, of Bucksport, Rena Maheu, of St. George, Canada, and Judy Jalbert, of Connecticut.

He is predeceased by the following siblings: George Bartley, Paul Bartley, Lauriana Pomerleau, Alfred Bartley, Louis Bartley and Jeannine Hebert.
