Ronald D. Roy


PITTSFIELD - Ronald D. Roy, 56, went home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2014, in Pittsfield.

He was born on June 16, 1957, a twin to his brother, Donald, and the son of Norman Roy and Janet (Roy) Gaston. He graduated from Skowhegan High School and proudly served our country in the Army. He worked construction for several years for Sheridan and Cianbro. He worked for Autotronics for several years and most recently for Rent-A-Center in Skowhegan before becoming ill.

He was a member of both the Waterville and Pittsfield fire departments for more than 25 years as a call firefighter. Ron was an avid fan of auto racing and especially enjoyed Unity Raceway, where he worked for many years from sweeping the track to race director. He will be missed by his many friends at the races, especially George and Sherry Fernald.

He is survived by his mother, Janet Gaston, and her husband, Howard, of Florida; two brothers, Donald Roy, of Pittsfield, and Norman (Buster) Roy and his significant other, Wendy, of Greenwood; sister Vickie Ouellette, of Winslow; special friend Sheryl Dodge, of Pittsfield; two sons, Chris Roy and his wife, Cherie, of St. Albans, and Nate Roy, of Biddeford; stepchildren Heather (Dodge) Poulin and husband Adam, of Freedom, and Mike Gamblin and wife Courtney, of Gray; grandchildren Chelsey, Taylor and Brandon Roy, of St. Albans, Devin Douglass, of Clinton, Nick and Kaylee Anderson, of Vassalboro, Carlie Bertrand, of Freedom, Jace Gamblin, of Gray, and Morgan Mitchell, of Hartland; uncle Ray Goding and wife Betty, of Pittsfield; aunts Betty Williams and Virginia Goding, both of Florida; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father; and his grandparents, Milton and Zelma Goding, and Norton and Gladys Roy.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring at Village Cemetery in Pittsfield, with military honors presented for his service to our country.
