WATERVILLE -- Matthew David Libby, 42, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. He was born in Waterville, May 3, 1970, the son of Richard and Ann (Johnson) Libby. Matt was educated in Waterville schools, graduating from Waterville High School in 1989. He went on to college at the University of Southern Maine and later attended the University of Maine at Augusta.

Matt enjoyed many activities, including golf and pool. He played in several pool leagues and won the State Eight Ball Tournament in 2009. In college, Matt was a history major and truly wanted to be a counselor or a teacher if he could have, but his illness prevented him from that dream. He was an avid writer and a great athlete in high school and college. At USM, he played soccer, hockey and tennis and even played some Junior A hockey in upstate New York for a year.

Matt was predeceased by his parents; a brother Stephen Libby and a sister Sarah Lamarre.

Surviving are his two brothers, Jonathan Libby of Waterville and Michael Libby of Lewiston; his nephews, Jesse Libby and Denver Jalette; and his nieces, Hannah Jalette and Camdyn Lamarre, as well as many close friends.

A celebration of Matt's life will be at noon Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at T.J.'s Classic Billiards at 60 Airport Road in Waterville.
