Leland W. Lowell(1919-2013)

BUCKSPORT/SKOWHEGAN - Leland W. Lowell passed away at 94 years on Nov. 9, 2013 after a great life. Leland was married two times and widowed, first to Alice Josephine Bartlett for 27 years, and last to Frances Mocha for 23 years. Leland was born in Bucksport on Sept. 18, 1919. He was raised in Medford, Mass., and Bucksport. He graduated from Bucksport High School, class of 1937.
Leland Served proudly in World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant serving on the Island of Saipan, Pacific Theater. Leland was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic acts while in service. Leland was always working for different charitable organizations, including volunteering at Boston Shriners Burn Hospital. He was a member of The Masonic Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Shriners, past president of Georgetown Historical Society, volunteer at Fort Knox, volunteer with Harriman Family Association and member of Bucksport Historical Society. He served as Sunday School superintendent and as deacon with the Congregational Church in Providence, R.I.
Leland is survived by his son, Charles E. Lowell and wife Carol, grandsons Adam Lowell and wife Tracey, grandson Brett Lowell and wife Stephannie, grandson Craig Lowell and wife Megan. Leland has three great-granddaughters, Hailey, Katarina and Sarah Lowell. Leland is also survived by his sisters, Josephine MacKinnon and Jane Hopkins, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Leland will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Elm Street Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, send donations to The Shriners Children's Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bucksport.
