WINSLOW - Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Gagne, 89, of Winslow, passed away at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

He was born in Winslow on Nov. 4, 1924, the son of Arthur and Obelia (Grenier) Gagne.

Lawrence was educated in Winslow schools. Following his schooling, he served in the Army during WWII, from March 30, 1943, through Feb. 18, 1946. He was honorably discharged having obtained the rank of private first class.

He married the former Yvonne Cote and together they raised their four children, Virginia Dorval, of Florida, Daniel Cote, of Vassalboro, Joan Vashon, of Winslow, and Linda Germon and her husband, Dale, of Benton.

Along with being a hard working father and husband, Lawrence was employed at the Wyandotte Woolen Mill for 32 years and Cascade Woolen Mill for six years before retiring.

Lawrence married Bertha Pelotte and the couple shared many wonderful years together until her passing on March 31, 2011. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Yvonne Gagne; his parents; and all but one sibling.

Besides his children, he is survived by his sister, Patricia Massey and her husband, Donald, of Winslow; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.
