John Raymond Gilley


SKOWHEGAN - John Raymond Gilley, 67, passed away peacefully at his home April 23, 2014, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Augusta, the son of Kenneth O. and Adrienne M. (Dumont) Gilley. He lived most of his life in Skowhegan.

He was a passionate man who enjoyed the great outdoors to the fullest. He worked for many years as a produce manager for Hannaford and later delivering ice cream for Gifford's and Sure Winner Foods. In his spare time, John could be found deep in the woods, either fishing, fiddle-heading, working in his garden, or "running chains" at the Skowhegan football games.

John is survived by his loving wife, Gloria (Jacques) Gilley; daughter Katrina Gilley and partner Gary Meader, and his grandsons, Robert Gallant and Josh Meader; son Christopher and husband Carl Gilley-Briggs, and his grandchildren, Kayla and Zachary Briggs; brother Michael Gilley and wife Carla, of Sidney; sister-in-law, Sally Gilley, of Winthrop; uncle Chester Gilley, of Augusta; two aunts, Gilbert Dumont, of Bangor, and Marie Gilley, of Falls Church, Va.; traveling companions Randy and Vanessa Bruce; and many loving family members, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by brother Kenneth Jr.

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Skowhegan/Madison Elks Lodge, 21 Silver St., Skowhegan.
