SUMMERFIELD, Fla. -- Daniel "Dan" Roy, 74, passed away March 27, 2013. Mr. Roy was born June 4, 1938, in Waterville, Maine.

Mr. Roy was of the Catholic faith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Roy received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and his two graduate degrees from the University of Connecticut.

Mr. Roy was an educator for the towns of Brooklyn and Canterbury, Conn.

He and his wife, Arleen, moved to Summerfield from Connecticut in 2001.

Dan enjoyed seeing the country every summer, camping with his kids. He also enjoyed going to their cottage in Belgrade Lakes, Maine, and going on the pontoon boat.

He was a member of Spruce Creek South's tennis club. He enjoyed playing tennis, riding his bike, flying his plane, downloading movies, and being Starbucks' best customer.

He is survived by his wife, Arleen G. Roy, of Summerfield, Fla.; two daughters, Michelle (Craig) Costa, of Dacula, Ga., and Danielle (Lance) Dunahoe, of Colleyville, Texas; son Michael (Joanne) Roy, of Ashford, Conn.; two brothers, James Roy, of Waterville, Maine, and Paul Roy, of Stafford, Va.; and his seven grandchildren, Courtney, Camden, Caitlyn, Jeffrey, Liam, Landon and Gavin.

A time of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. April 21, 2013, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services -- The Villages, The Villages, Fla.
