MILLINOCKET and SKOWHEGAN - Robert R. "Bob" LaCasse, 87, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Skowhegan, the son of Joseph F. and Delia M. (Sylvain) LaCasse.

Bob was a graduate of Skowhegan, class of 1945, where he was a gifted athlete that lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He attended Farmington State Teachers College on the G.I. Bill, and later attained a master's degree in education from the University of Maine at Orono. Bob was a teacher for more than 35 years, first in South Paris, and then in Millinocket during the 1960s and 70s, from where he retired. While a teacher in Millinocket, he was a football coach in the Little Giant football program and also at Stearns High School. He was a lifelong avid fan of Notre Dame football. Bob will be remembered as a loving and involved father and grandfather, and was very proud of his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by two children, Joey LaCasse, and his wife, Renee, and their son, Gus, all of Trenton, and Ann Theriault and her husband, David, and their children, Elaine and Jimmy, all of Winthrop; a brother, Gerald, and his family; a very special friend, Violet Ferland, and her family, Bruce and Janet Ferland, and their children Derik and Travis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife, Carmen (DiNardo) LaCasse; and a brother, Francis.

Funeral services will be held privately for the family. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
