MADISON - Phillip W. Barbeau, 89, died August 20, 2014, at his home in Madison.
He was born March 22, 1925, in Fort Fairfield, to Joseph W. and Hulda (Parsons) Barbeau. Phillip graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady, NY, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. On February 7, 1946, Phillip was married to Bernice "Bunny" Monroe. Bernice died July 16, 1986. On February 1, 1989, he married Maxine Emery.
Phillip worked for GE in Schenectady, NY, for years before moving back to Maine. He also ran a garage in Anson for many years before working 20-plus years as a millwright and was a member of the Carpenter & Millwright Local 320. He worked in many out-of-state locations and made lifelong friends wherever he visited. One of Phillip's projects close to home was helping to maintain the generators at the Madison Electric Works Sandy River Power station. He was also a Life Member of the Harvell-Bishop VFW Post 7865 and a member of the Tardiff Belanger American Legion Post 39 of Madison.
Phil was a avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Barbeau; and a sister, Patricia Pardy
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maxine (Emery) Barbeau of Madison, three children, Morris C. "Mickey" Barbeau and his wife Ginny of Lamoine, Daniel P. Barbeau and his wife Janice of Norridgewock and Susan M. Hunnewell and her husband Greg of Smithfield; two stepchildren, Vickie Walsh of Augusta and Kendrick Hewey of St. Agatha; his grandchildren, Shelley, Phillip, Cindy, Danny, Darren, Janna and Dana; fourteen great-grandchildren; and 3 stepgrandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014, at Christ the King, St. Sebastian Church on Main Street in Madison. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery in Madison. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Phillip's name to the Somerset Humane Society, 123 Middle Road, P.O.Box 453, Skowhegan, ME 04976.
