1950-2014

MADISON - Larry W. Allen, 64, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Togus VA center. He was born May 16, 1950, in Skowhegan, to George C. Jr. and Beverly M. (Williams) Allen. He attended area schools, graduating from Waterville High School with the class 1968. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and continued to serve with the Maine Army National Guard for 30 years, retiring as a sergeant on the 17th day of May 2010.

Larry had been employed at various jobs throughout his life, most recently for the Public Works Department in the town of Norridgewock.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the ocean. Family was very important to Larry; he was devoted to taking of his parents.

Larry was predeceased by his father, and two brothers David C. and Charles D. Allen.

He is survived by two daughters, Cassie Allen of Norridgewock and Heather Blackwelder of Ohio; and a son Mark Allen of Waterville; his mother Beverly (Williams) Allen of Madison; and six sisters, Barbara Smith of Madison, May Wallace of Athens, OH, Gloria Aube of Newport, VA, Donna Moore of FL, Carol Gray of Madison and Mary Hinkley of Moscow.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, with Pastor Daniel O. Curtis officiating.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Giberson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 40 Maple St., Madison.
