Coburn O. Waugh, 99, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at Somerset Rehab & Living Center in Bingham. He was born June 10, 1914, in Solon to John A. and Edith (Pierce) Waugh. He was educated in Solon schools graduating from Solon High School with the class of 1931. Coburn served with the U.S.Army during World War II. He was a resident of Bingham for many years where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Scott Paper Co.

Coburn was married on May 11, 1991 in Solon to Gertrude Ballou and has been a resident of Solon since that date. As the oldest resident of Solon he held the Boston Post Cane for the past several years.

Coburn was very active in the Keystone Masonic Lodge of Solon, a 32nd degree Mason, past master of the Lodge, past district deputy of the 13th Masonic District, a member of the Kennebec Royal Arch Chapter, past high priest of the chapter, member of Mount Moriah Council Royal and Select Masters, past illustrious master of the Council, a member of DeMolay Commandry No. 10, past commander of DeMolay Commandry, a member of the Order of High Priesthood, member of the Thrice Illustrious Masters and a member of the Kora Temple Shrine. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Bingham Grange, State and National Grange.

He was predeceased by his first wife Beatrice (Berry) Waugh, his siblings Lillian P. Hilton, Malcolm J. Waugh, Raymond M. Waugh, Lt. Colby A. Waugh, Norman E. Waugh, J. Stanley Waugh, Merrill E. Waugh, Pauline H. Waugh and Robert A. Waugh.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Ballou) Waugh, of Bingham, his daughter, Deborah (Waugh) MacDonald and her husband, Colby, of Dover, N.H., his stepdaughters Barbara Jones, of Bangor, and Trudy Berry and her husband, Bob, of Embden, his stepsons, Harold Ballou, of Clinton, Conn., and Rodney Ballou and his wife, Irene, of Madison, Conn., his sisters, Carolyn Waugh, of Solon, and Marelyn E. Leeman, of Gray, many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Somerset Rehab & Living Center for the care and kindness to Coburn while he has been a resident there. Also a special thank-you to his nephew Leon Hilton. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may plant a tree in his memory.

A funeral service will be held at a later date (to be announced) at the Solon Congregational Church on Main St. in Solon. Cremation & Service arrangements are under the care of Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St. in Bingham.
